@OH3CUF Could do! Though if the goal is sending JSON when a new spot arrives to avoid the need for polling, SSE might be a better choice than telnet. WWBOTA uses it, and Spothole also uses it between the web UI and the server. It's a bit more modern and less janky than telnet! I don't know what Spotline's server infrastructure looks like though, so it might be a pain to set up.

@ian That is true, maybe loosing too much valuable information.
We should come up with a new telnet-style protocol for future use. Perhaps instea of weirdly aligned and concatted strings, use json as output with some "base schema" and then allow other fields added if needed..
@OH3CUF I could do, losing the lat/long and park name wouldn't be too bad as we can get those from the CSV anyway. I think the only impact would be the truncated comments?

@OH3CUF Thanks. I've tried KLog and QLog so far, QLog works fine, KLog does work but gives an error on connection. I was wondering if it was expecting a login prompt, looks like you are right about that!
@ian Great success! Ask / try it out with few of the common logging software. I remember some were quite picky or expected something at the start to accept the server. spots.wwff.co 7300 gives some automatic messages at connect (which you can freely copy), also some actually require that login: even if it is "open" server.
@OH3CUF Yeah, it definitely feels like DXspider is something from the past compared to nowadays where most software has a decent website, obvious git repo with releases etc.
Are you able to share roughly how many commands you implemented? I don't really use a desktop logger so I'm not sure what sort of telnet cluster commands they support.
@ian I decided to built from-scratch simplified version for spots.wwff.co - faster, easier to maintain and doesn't need all the bells and whistles anyways. Also I think dxspider source code management is a mess, I still don't know where is the "latest" version.. of if there is even one.

@OH3CUF Yeah, I have thought about that. I'm not sure what would be easier, having Telnet in Spothole and supporting DXspider commands, or running a real DXspider node and feeding it spots from Spothole
@ian Related to contest - I think you would get new friends if Spothole would support "telnet" connection, so one could connect their contest logging software to Spothole via "telnet". Some basic dxspider commands for filtering and it would be really usable.

@M0YNG tried it few years ago, it had some issues with notifications. I've been testing DeltaChat, seems work really nicely.

It is september. Nature is clearly starting to prepare for winter. Sun has that certain shine, already a bit low and shadows are darker.
I activated today with 10 watts and self built 1:49 EFHW. No problems getting over 80 QSOs. Reminds me how awesome hobby this is.
OHFF - Finnish WWFF organization has been testing a log uploading system for a while now and the reaction from uploaders, reviewers have been overly positive.
Not only it reduces the workload of log managers (OHFF gets over 100 logs per month) but actually improves the log quality & review by automatic pre-checks - activators get instant feedback if something is off.
It also integrates to WWFF spot service to cross-check spotting for the log.

@M0PWX I checked it properly, and the selected ground profile is reaching the NEC. It uses NEC’s real-ground model, not perfect earth.
Apparently the pattern shape alone isn’t a reliable way to tell.. The 3D view is also normalized, which makes some ground profiles look more alike than they really are.
when its using the perfect earth profile it tends to show the proper doughnut shape plot, when its using a real earth and you have a height above ground set you see more lobes normally
